For the first time, and for a limited number of members of the rising generation in legacy families, a unique NextGen educational experience will be made available within the college walls of University College.
This initiative is supported by a collaborative effort of the Global Partnership Family Offices in London, the Liechtenstein Academy in Europe and The Raffles Family Wealth Trust in Singapore.
The programme, the first in a proposed series of ‘Great Universities’ experiences for NextGen family members, will be limited to around 30 participants, and will be held at University College (known informally as Univ) which was founded by William of Durham before his death in 1249. Univ is the oldest of the individual colleges which constitute Oxford University.
Statement of purpose
With nearly $40 trillion expected to pass across generations in the coming decade on a worldwide basis, the poor record of preserving wealth across time and transferring wealth (and sustaining values) across generations becomes a critical challenge for many wealthy families.
The purpose of the session will be to provide a thorough grounding for the selected participants in the approaches which have worked in the past and to prepare individuals better for their own challenges for the future.
Programme
The schedule for the session will cover three full days and three nights in residence at University College, with participants staying in university student accommodation and taking meals in the college dining hall, creating as much of the experience of a true Oxford education as possible in a few short days dedicated to the long-term success of the families represented.
In addition to a series of tours and activities exploring Oxford University and engaging in a series of supporting and leisure activities such as rowing, punting and a group meditation session, the formal programme will address a number of high priority issues related to the creation and realisation of ambitious visions for the greater family whose members will be taking part in the session.
An exceptional faculty
The team presenting the material and guiding the discussion will be drawn from acknowledged leaders in the areas most relevant to the specific subjects at hand and the overall purpose of the day.
Unique opportunity
What sets this initiative apart from other programmes available for NextGen members is the limited size, the extraordinary setting and Oxford experience, the focus of the programme, the quality of the faculty and the global group of expected attendees.
The experience is designed to be both engaging and challenging for the participants; this is not a programme for those who prefer to sit back passively and observe lectures and attend sessions without putting real effort into preparing, participating and learning. This is indeed an opportunity for getting the benefits of consistent effort, full attention and a manifest desire to get the most possible out of a truly extraordinary experience.
Target participants
Applications will be invited from NextGen family members, aged primarily from 18 to 35 years, but extending upward if appropriate, from families who can both contribute to and benefit from the sessions which make up the overall programme. Some prior preparation will be required, including the preparation and presentation to the group in the introductory session of a summary of the history and experiences of the family represented.
Applicants for the programme should be prepared to submit a CV, brief family history and a short statement of what they would like to gain from participating in the Oxford programme. The three-day course will cost £2,250. Any questions or preliminary expressions of interest should be sent to Global Partnership’s Michael Oliver, mjo@gpfo.co.uk, for purposes of clarification or early registration.
